Nathan Coppedge (b. 1982) is a non-Randian objectivist who believes that qualities are
the foundation of both philosophy and science.

It is important not to ignore either empiricism or abstraction. Philosophy in this sense is
like a found object. Although objects have empirical properties, much of the significance
of objects comes to us through interpretation. Coppedge calls this need for interpretation
the 'luxury platform'.

The luxury platform is a fundamental opportunity for objectivity.  Interpretation is defined
in terms of the material properties of objects
qua philosophy.

There is a choice between the nominal objectivity of objects, and the qualified objectivity
of the senses. The objectivity of the senses comes to us through the inherent intellectual
properties of the object, which may be highly various.

For example, an angular stone, if it represents systems, represents angular systems,
whereas a smooth stone, if it represents systems, represents smooth systems. In this way,
there is a kind of common sense to objectivity.

An early part of coherent research involved visual semiotics, while later applications have
involved applications to computer programming, physics, and psychology.

A significant part of the work has also involved intensive interpretation of complex works
by figures such as Novalis, Lichtenberg, Canetti, and the Pre-Socratics, as well as
painters such as Picabia, Chagall, Juan Gris, Picasso, and Paul Klee.
